Microwave Amplifiers

An introduction to the design of amplifiers in the RF microwave frequency range of one-half to ten-gigahertz. Impedance matching, modeling, dynamic range, unilateral design, bilateral design, stability, low noise design, and broadband design techniques. Students will use fundamental microwave and RF techniques, mathematical and computer based calculation, and charting tools to perform impedance matching, Smith Chart plotting, and simulation. RF amplifier design, high frequency design and measurements, microwave transistor amplifiers, RF circuit design, transmission line theory, Smith Charts, S-parameters, microstrip and stripline, resonant circuits, quality factor, Q-factor considerations, impedance matching, two-element line networks, three-element matching networks, high-frequency construction characteristics, dynamic range, noise floor, compression point, 3dB, half-power, small signal amplifier design, unilateral design, bilateral design, stability and stability circles, constant gain, LNA, low noise amplifier design, broadband considerations, large signal amplifiers, and oscillator theory and design.
